Good to know
For net prices, add net × rate. For gross prices, divide by (1 + rate) to extract the net amount. The 10% example is not a country-specific tax determination.
Operation: add Amount: 10000 VAT rate (%): 10
Understand and use your results
Add tax to a net quote or split a tax-inclusive amount into net value and VAT. The tool does not determine the applicable tax rate or exemption status.
How to use it
- Choose Add VAT or Extract from gross.
- Enter the amount and confirmed rate, then compare net, tax and total.
Worked example
gross: 11000, rate: 10%, extract
subtotal: 10000 tax: 1000 total: 11000
Dividing the gross 11,000 by 1.1 gives a net amount of 10,000. Multiplying the gross directly by 10% gives 1,100, which is not the embedded VAT in this example.
Can I use this directly for a tax return?
Use it as an arithmetic check. Country and product rates, exemptions and line-item rounding rules are not modeled. Verify that the example 10% rate applies to your transaction and use the relevant rules and records for filing.
